We say 'Absolutely! Yes!!'
As Caribbean people we have achieved a great deal and overcome many great challenges.
And yes, we do hear of the amazing successes in music, and sport and the overall great love for our Caribbean Islands.
However, outside of this there are few places where our stories are told and celebrated, where we can communicate with one another, discuss and celebrate our collective good news.
Have We Made Any Other Significant Contributions?
When we think about the Caribbean, are we aware of the developments arising in Technology and Media, or of research developments in the University of the West Indies?
What about the breakthroughs in agriculture, real estate and manufacturing? Who are the Caribbean movers and shakers in the UK, across Europe, the US, Africa and further afield?
Being aware of these stories can be inspirational for our global community, and critical to ensuring that collectively we understand that we are moving forward and making progress. As we share information with one another, professionals in the Caribbean can be made aware of the strides their Caribbean relatives are making globally, and the successes of those in Caribbean nations can be celebrated globally.
Our professional community creates an opportunity for us to be reconnected and become stronger based upon our celebration of our collective professional achievements.
Bigger Than Just Us
Some might also argue that our successes are indeed bigger than us. Our successes are also a tribute to the labour and sacrifice of our fore parents and a reminder that our achievements tell a story so much greater than just 'who we are'.
In reality, our every achievement is a reminder of how far we have come and the great strength and tenacity we have as a people. Every nation that has overcome great challenges takes time to celebrate their victories, and wherever we are located we need to do the same.
We have so much to be proud of. Together our Caribbean nations have changed the face of the world, through sport and music and also through academics, politics, medicine and in many other spheres.
So on the question of whether our Global Caribbean Professional Community matters... we believe it does. Absolutely.
