Every 37 seconds someone in the western world dies from a blood clot or venous thromboembolism (VTE). 1 in 4 people die from causes related to blood clots.
55-60% of VTE cases occur during hospitalisation.
VTE is the number 1 cause of preventable death in hospital.
Recently the roll out of Covid 19 vaccines AstraZeneca were temporarily halted as they were with associated with blood clot deaths. However as the death from blood clot is a already a common event the blood clots could have been caused by other blood clot triggers and the vaccination coincidental.
