The lack of diversity in publishing in the UK has been an ongoing debate for decades, especially in children's books. It can be difficult to find an agent or publisher but also, if you're fortunate to succeed, to find one who appreciates that there is also diversity among black voices themselves. Our interests and stories are not all the same and 'being black' is not the only topic we can or want to write about.
That's why Jacaranda's 20 in 2020 initiative was such a brave and inspiring step. It's the first time in history that a publisher has published 20 black writers across a range of genres, including fiction, non-fiction and poetry, in a single year.

What subjects are you most interested in writing about?
Have you found it difficult to find an agent or publisher for your area of interest?
Are things different in the part of the world you're from?
Do you disagree with me (I am happy to learn!)😉
There is indeed a wealth of knowledge that needs to be shared.
